Educational visit to the shipping company Trafigura

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, students from the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus visited the facilities of the shipping company Trafigura. The visit took place within the framework of the activities of the courses “Organization and Management of Shipping Businesses”, “Business Economics” and “Quantitative Methods in Shipping and Transport”.

In the first part of the visit, company executives (graduates of the Department of Maritime Studies and the University of Piraeus) present the course of the company, its operations, its organizational structure and its development strategy, with references to their own professional path at Trafigura. Particular emphasis was placed on the company’s approach to human resources management and the training opportunities it offers through internships. Executives Ibtisam Ahmed, Vasia Andreopoulou, Konstantinos Asvestaris, Georgina Giannitsi, Katerina Zikou, Vasiliki Menegi (MICS), and Giota Papadopoulou analyzed these topics.

In the second part of the visit, the company’s Director Faye Fraggedi, a graduate of the Department of Maritime Studies and Member of the Department’s Advisory Board, spoke to the students about the company’s progress and her own path in it. An open discussion followed regarding the prerequisites for a successful career in shipping, where she answered a multitude of questions and concerns.
