Welcoming Students and Teachers from Arsakeia – Tositseia Schools to the University of Piraeus

A few days ago, we had the distinct pleasure of welcoming more than 80 students and teachers from the Arsakeia – Tositseia Schools to the University of Piraeus.

During the visit, we had the opportunity to present the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus, discuss current developments in the shipping industry, and highlight the significant career prospects that shipping offers both in Greece and internationally.

The students showed an exceptionally strong interest. Many of them are currently at a critical juncture, as they will be called upon within the next 1–2 years to select their preferred university studies when filling out their higher education application forms. Their questions and insights highlighted the vital need for reliable guidance regarding the academic and career paths available in the maritime sector.

Special reference was made to the Internship Office of the University of Piraeus and the highly successful Internship Program of the Department of Maritime Studies. The academic excellence of this program has earned widespread recognition from shipping companies. This is clearly reflected in the steadily increasing number of students requested by companies for internship placements. The visiting students were informed about the opportunities available to undergraduates to gain invaluable professional experience during their studies, allowing them to take their first career steps within shipping companies and maritime organizations. Bridging academic knowledge with the actual labor market is one of the most significant advantages of studying maritime affairs, providing essential tools for their future professional journey.

We extend our warmest thanks to the students and educators for their presence, their keen interest, and the meaningful discussion we shared. We hope this visit helped give them a more comprehensive understanding of the studies and prospects offered by the shipping sector and our Department!
