Memorandum of Understanding between Shanghai Maritime University and the University of Piraeus for student exchange
The University of Piraeus and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding student exchange. The Memorandum of Understanding for the SMU-UNIPI Global Talent Exchange (GTE) stipulates that every year up to 10 students from the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus will attend a four-week summer school in Shanghai, with tuition and accommodation costs covered by SMU, while up to 10 SMU students will attend the summer semester at the Department of Maritime Studies.
The Memorandum was signed on June 2, 2026, by the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michail Sfakianakis, and the Vice President of SMU, Professor Yin Min, during a special ceremony at the University of Piraeus.
Present at the ceremony were the Chair of the Department of Maritime Studies, Professor Ioannis Theotokas, and the Vice Chair, Associate Professor Ioannis Lagoudis, who initiated the Memorandum and coordinated communication between the two sides. Representing SMU at the ceremony was Professor Sun Shibin, Dean of the Logistics Engineering College of SMU, as well as officials from the Embassy of China in Greece, Mr. Luo Yang, Deputy Director of the Political Section, and Ms. Wang Ying, Education Attaché.The implementation of the Memorandum began immediately, and the Department’s students are already in Shanghai attending the summer school.
