Quality Statement
The Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus is committed to ensuring quality in all its policies and activities as well as in its operation. It is committed to providing its students with quality education and research programmes fully aligned with market developments and needs, as well as useful services to serve the needs of the academic community and society. To this end, the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus provides, based on international quality standards, a human-centred Undergraduate Studies Program, which is accessible to all, equal and inclusive.
Department Quality Policy
The Department has established and implements a Quality Policy which is inextricably linked to the legal and regulatory framework governing the operation of the University of Piraeus. Through the development, evaluation and redefinition of the quality policy, the Department is committed to achieving even higher performance. Under this strategy, it will highlight values, standards and examples, in order to contribute to the University of Piraeus’ pursuit of high quality teaching and research results that entail in a stable development path of the Shipping sector and the country in general.
The Quality Policy of the Undergraduate Programme of Studies and its implementation strategy is harmonized with the Quality Policy of the University of Piraeus. In order to ensure and continuously enhance the quality of the educational and research work, as well as for the effective operation and performance of its services, the Department complies with the criteria set by law.
The basis of success in quality assurance lies in the cooperation between everyone, the investment in technology and in human resources, the continuous effort to connect the Department with the labour market, and the combined use of general knowledge with the specialization provided by the curriculum.
Quality Assurance System Certification
The certification of the quality assurance system is an external evaluation process which takes into account specific, predefined, internationally accepted and, in advance, published, quantitative and qualitative criteria and indicators, harmonized with the Principles and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (European Standards Guidelines 2015) with the aim of continuously improving the quality of the services provided by the Department.
Within the framework of this process, Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) organizes, prepares and supports the Department for/during the external evaluation/certification, while, at the same time, it facilitates the implementation of improvements, according to the observations and comments of the experts.
The results of the quality assurance strategy are documented in external evaluation reports, in detailed information on the Department’s goals and the learning outcomes of the Undergraduate Programme courses, as reflected in the Department’s Study Handbook, in the positive evaluations of the Department’s students, in the full alignment with European and International Standards (ECTS system), in the unhindered acceptance of graduates for postgraduate and doctoral studies at institutions abroad, as well as in their professional rehabilitation and social development.
