Educational visit to Latsco Marine Management Inc.
On Tuesday, May 9, MSc in Shipping students of the Department of Maritime Studies, University of Piraeus as well as the Program’s lecturers Assoc. Prof. Ioannis Lagoudis, Assistant Prof. Dionysios Polemis, Assoc. Prof. Andreas Andrikopoulos and the Chair of the Department, Prof. Ioannis Theotokas, had the pleasure of visiting the facilities of the shipping company Latsco Marine Management, as part of an organized long-hour educational visit, prepared by the staff of the company’s Human Resources Management Department.
During the visit they had the opportunity to watch a series of presentations and discuss with Mr. Antonis Georganztis, Chief Operating Officer of the company about the course and development of the business, Ms. Chrysanthi Thanopoulou, Research Analyst, about the company’s approach in the analysis of shipping markets, Mr. Iasonas Zacharioudakis, Operational Technology & Energy Manager, for ship performance and data reliability and Mr. John Panorios, Deputy Chief Operating Officer, for contract monitoring and fleet performance at the ports. They then visited the company’s certified training center and were given a tour of the bridge simulator by Capt. Dimitris Mansolas, Maritime Training Center Coordinator.
After the presentations, the students were divided into groups, met and discussed with a series of company executives issues concerning the organization, management and operation of the company as well as the trends and challenges of the shipping industry. The visit concluded with a special workshop, during which the executives of the company’s Human Resources Management Department presented and discussed with the students tips and practices for their successful entry into the shipping market.
