MSc in “Shipping” Annual Educational Trip: Exploring the Netherlands

The 2024 edition of our highly anticipated annual educational trip took our students to the heart of maritime innovation and sustainability in the Netherlands! After the US 2022 and Egypt 2023 trips, under the guidance and organisation of our Director, Prof. Maria Boile, this year’s journey provided our students an enriching experience, exploring key European maritime sites.

One of the standout moments was visiting Rotterdam’s iconic Euromast Tower, where we were honored to receive a guided tour from the Executive Director of the Green Award Foundation, Mr. Jan Fransen. Students also delved into the science of water management at the Keringhuis Public Water Center and learned about the remarkable engineering behind the Maeslantkering flood barrier. Lastly, we explored the Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), gaining firsthand insights into its crucial role in port and maritime safety in managing the world’s busiest port.

This trip provided an incredible opportunity to deepen our understanding of sustainable shipping and maritime safety, essential for the future leaders of the industry.
