Ο Δρ. Ιωάννης Ν. Λαγούδης είναι μέλος ΔΕΠ του Τμήματος Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιά από το Δεκέμβριο του 2018. Στο παρελθόν έχει διατελέσει μέλος ΔΕΠ του Τμήματος Ναυτιλίας και Επιχειρηματικών Υπηρεσιών του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου και του Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation του MIT Global SCALE Network. Είναι υπότροφος του Ιδρύματος Fulbright στο MIT – Center for Transportation and Logistics με το οποίο συνεργάστηκε επί σειρά ετών. Παράλληλα με την ενασχόλησή του με τον ακαδημαϊκό χώρο έχει συμβουλεύσει πολυεθνικές εταιρείες και κυβερνητικούς οργανισμούς στην Ασία, τις ΗΠΑ και την Ευρώπη σε θέματα που άπτονται της ναυτιλίας και της εφοδιαστικής αλυσίδας. Μεταξύ των εταιρειών που έχει συνεργαστεί είναι η CSX, Starbucks, Petronas, Ralph Lauren και Johor Port Authority. Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα ανήκουν στους τομείς της στρατηγικής διοίκησης θαλάσσιων μεταφορών, διαχείριση εφοδιαστικής αλυσίδας και λήψης αποφάσεων. Έχει δημοσιεύσεις σε ακαδημαϊκά περιοδικά και συνέδρια. Είναι ο αρχισυντάκτης του International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management.
