O Πέτρος Ι. Σταυρουλάκης είναι Διπλωματούχος Μηχανολόγος Μηχανικός Παραγωγής ΕΜΠ, με μεταπτυχιακό στη διοίκηση επιχειρήσεων από το Γεωπονικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, μεταπτυχιακό στην επαγγελματική και περιβαλλοντική υγεία από την Ιατρική Σχολή Αθηνών, και διδακτορικό από το Τμήμα Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς, στο οποίο και ολοκλήρωσε και τη μεταδιδακτορική του έρευνα στον τομέα της βιωσιμότητας των συστάδων ναυτιλίας. Επίσης κατέχει πιστοποίηση εξειδικευμένης επιμόρφωσης στην ψυχικές παθήσεις παιδιών και εφήβων και την ψυχοδυναμική ψυχοθεραπεία. Επί σειρά ετών υπήρξε εξωτερικός συνεργάτης της Εθνικής Αρχής Ανώτατης Εκπαίδευσης και μέλος του ακαδημαϊκού προσωπικού στο Αμερικανικό Κολλέγιο Ελλάδας, μέχρι και τη στιγμή του διορισμού του στο Τμήμα Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς. Στο ενεργητικό του έχει πολλές συνεργασίες με ιδιωτικούς και δημόσιους φορείς όπως ο Ελληνικός Στρατός, οι Συγκοινωνίες Αθηνών, η Αττική Οδός ΑΕ, το Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο, και το Πανεπιστήμιο Δυτικής Αττικής. Το γνωστικό του αντικείμενο αφορά στη ναυτιλιακή τεχνολογία και διοικητική επιστήμη και τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζουν στην ανάλυση των λειτουργικών και κατασκευαστικών στοιχείων των πλοίων και των σύγχρονων μεθόδων και εργαλείων διαχείρισης της ναυτιλιακής επιχείρησης σε σχέση με τις υφιστάμενες και αναδυόμενες τεχνολογίες, τις εφαρμογές τους, και τις τεχνικές ανάπτυξης και βελτίωσής τους.
