Ο Στέφανος Χατζηνικολάου είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Τεχνολογίας Πλοίων στο Τμήμα Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς. Είναι απόφοιτος της Σχολής Ναυπηγών Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου, όπου ολοκλήρωσε και τις διδακτορικές του σπουδές στα βιώσιμα συστήματα θαλάσσιων μεταφορών. Για πάνω από δύο δεκαετίες υπηρετεί τη ναυτιλιακή βιομηχανία στην έρευνα και ανάπτυξη, τη συμβουλευτική μηχανική και την επαγγελματική εκπαίδευση. Έχει εκτενή εμπειρία σε χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά προγράμματα στους τομείς της ενεργειακής απόδοσης των πλοίων, των περιβαλλοντικών επιδόσεων των πλοίων, της ναυτιλίας μηδενικού άνθρακα και της ναυτικής ασφάλειας.
